Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Peter Storm Fashion collection?

Fun combinations of Italian chains, faceted stones, and magnetic clasps

Jewelry should be fun and, above all, easy to wear. The collection uses rare earth magnetic clasps which mean that they almost put themselves on. You can clip your bracelets and necklaces in endless creative ways.

The collection is playful and fashionable, comes in yellows, roses, blacks and whites. Fun for dressing up or pairing with your favorite jeans.

How is the Silver coated?

All of our yellow and rose silver is washed in 18k gold. We carefully coat our pieces so that they have an even color and will not tarnish.

All of our black silver pieces are coated in Ruthenium. Ruthenium is a metal that is in the same family as platinum. Ruthenium is a long lasting material and is a perfect coat for your jewelry.

What are Naked Diamonds? Are they really naked?

The Naked Diamond bridal collection features princess cut diamonds (square shaped diamonds) that are set point to point. This unique technique took Peter two years to master, but the results are stunning. When you look at the rings, the diamonds appear as if they were floating across your finger, with no visible metal holding them in place. Thus, they are “naked diamonds”. As you look down on this ring, you see your skin peaking between the stones and the sparkling diamonds contrasting your skin perfectly.

What is the Julia collection?

Julia is a collection with woven silver threads that support floating stones. Fun and easy to wear, this is one of Peter’s favorite collection. The silver thread is light and airy, you will forget you are wearing it until your friends point out the fabulous jewelry.

How does one make a piece of jewelry?

3 steps:
Ideas and Sketches
The first step to creating a piece of jewelry is to brainstorm for ideas and themes. The first questions you need to ask when creating a piece of jewelry are: who are you making the piece for? Where will I wear it? What is the purpose of the piece. Then you must turn to inspiration. One of the constant themes in Peter’s pieces is empty space. The empty space creates a pause between the jewelry and your skin. The results are delicate pieces that allow you to shine though the stones.

The second step is computers and waxes.
Now that you have your ideas, it’s time to translate the ideas from sketches to a computer mock up. The advantage of using a computer is that it is easy make changes to the model. Traditionally, jewelers carved a wax copy of the piece. For every revision, there had to be a new wax copy. Today, jewelers create a computer model of the piece using special software. Since it is still important to see a physical manifestation of the piece, there are special wax “printers” which will create a 3-D wax image of the piece. In this stage, the jeweler has the opportunity to play with his creations. He can see how to add depth to his piece and make small alterations as he sees fit.

The final product
Once the jeweler has a final wax that he likes, it’s time for casting. Each wax piece is cast in either gold or Platinum, and then finished. There are several stages of finishing before stones can be set; after setting, more finishing and the final polish.

Each piece should be considered a work of art, a creation born of inspiration, time and care.

What is rose gold?

Rose gold is a gold copper alloy. The copper adds the rosy color, leading us to the name Rose gold.

Any piece can be made in rose, yellow or white gold. You can even have pieces that have combinations of different color metals.

Platinum or White Gold?

What is the difference between white gold and platinum?
White gold is an alloy of gold and a white metal. White gold is usually colored by nickel, manganese or palladium. Gold is a fairly soft metal. The vast majority of gold that is used to make jewelry is a gold alloy. Jewelers mix gold with other metals to make the gold more durable. Pure gold is 24 carats. Peter Storm uses 14 or 18 carat gold in their jewelry.

Platinum is a white metal that is used in jewelry. Platinum is extremely dense and long wearing, which makes it ideal for bridal ring. Platinum is rare, which makes it a coveted metal.

Should you buy a piece of jewelry in white gold or platinum?
This is a personal choice. Some people prefer platinum as it is a heavier metal and will not wear away with time. Some people prefer gold as it is less expensive and is a very safe option.

If you are worried about damaging your ring, here is some advice on keeping your ring safe: if you are wondering if you should take off your rings, you should probably do so. Any activity that includes heavy hand contact is not good for rings, platinum or gold. Stainless steel is harder than any precious metal.

Take off your rings when you do dishes. Make sure you remove your rings if you are going to play a sport. This may sound like a no brainer, but you would be surprised how many rings end up ruined during tennis matches or rock climbing. Swimming and rings is not a good match either.
